Men's Volleyball Can't Keep Pace With Hot-Hitting CUW

Drew Wempner ties match high with 13 kills

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College couldn't keep pace with Concordia Wisconsin's hot hitting in a 3-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference defeat on Tuesday at the Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (3-18, 0-9 NACC) fell to the Falcons (10-8, 6-3 NACC) by scores of 25-17, 25-9, 25-21.

WLC jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the opening set until CUW went on a 5-0 scoring run to give itself a 14-8 advantage. Wisconsin Lutheran netted three straight points to cut its deficit to three at 16-13, but Concordia Wisconsin prevented any comeback by scoring six of the last seven points to take the first set 25-17.

The Falcons opened the second set with a 5-2 advantage before the Warriors tacked on two straight points to trail 5-4. However, CUW pulled away by scoring the next eight points to build a nine-point lead, while holding WLC under 10 points to win set two 25-9.

Wisconsin Lutheran held a 4-2 lead early in the third set, and maintained a lead for the majority of the set. The Warriors' lead reached five points at 14-9 before Concordia Wisconsin climbed back into the set with a 6-2 scoring spurt. The Falcons broke the eighth tie of the set by finishing on a 5-1 run for a 25-21 victory.
