MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College couldn't keep pace with Concordia Wisconsin's hot hitting in a 3-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference defeat on Tuesday at the Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (3-18, 0-9 NACC) fell to the Falcons (10-8, 6-3 NACC) by scores of 25-17, 25-9, 25-21.
WLC jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the opening set until CUW went on a 5-0 scoring run to give itself a 14-8 advantage. Wisconsin Lutheran netted three straight points to cut its deficit to three at 16-13, but Concordia Wisconsin prevented any comeback by scoring six of the last seven points to take the first set 25-17.
The Falcons opened the second set with a 5-2 advantage before the Warriors tacked on two straight points to trail 5-4. However, CUW pulled away by scoring the next eight points to build a nine-point lead, while holding WLC under 10 points to win set two 25-9.
Wisconsin Lutheran held a 4-2 lead early in the third set, and maintained a lead for the majority of the set. The Warriors' lead reached five points at 14-9 before Concordia Wisconsin climbed back into the set with a 6-2 scoring spurt. The Falcons broke the eighth tie of the set by finishing on a 5-1 run for a 25-21 victory.
Sophomore
Drew Wempner (West Allis, Wis.) tied a match high with 13 kills for WLC, which finished with a .103 hitting percentage on 26 kills, 18 errors, and 78 attempts. Junior
Jay Thammavongsa (Franklin, Wis.) led the team with 11 assists and sophomore
Trevor Salutric (Lockport, Ill.) tallied five digs.
Spencer Herman had 13 kills to lead the Falcons, who hit .507 with 43 kills, seven errors, and 71 attempts. Logan Kebisek finished with a match-high 34 assists.
