MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 non-conference sweep over Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday at the Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (3-12), who honored seniors
Chris Mann (Laveen, Ariz.),
Isaac Stellick (Rising City, Neb.), and
Grant Wempner (Garden Grove, Calif.) during a pregame ceremony, won their first home match of the season over the Sabercats (0-21) by scores of 25-11, 25-19, 25-15.
WLC fell behind 3-1 in the opening set before quickly knotting the score at 4-4 apiece. Wisconsin Lutheran scored the next seven points giving itself an 11-4 advantage. A pair of aces from
Grant Wempner gave the Warriors a double digit lead, as they went on to win the first set 25-11.
A back-and-forth start to the second set resulted in a 6-4 lead for MBU. WLCÂ responded with an 8-2 run, as it led 12-8. Maranatha Baptist answered with a run of its own, as it regained a 14-12 lead. Both teams exchanged points down the stretch and Wisconsin Lutheran regained an 18-17 lead that it never relinquished, winning set two 25-19.
Both teams traded points and the Warriors gained a 5-4 lead to begin the third set. A quick 3-0 spurt from WLC extended its lead to four. The Sabercats cut it to two, but an 8-1 run from Wisconsin Lutheran, featuring a pair of kills from Wempner, put them in front 18-9 lead. MBUÂ never got closer than six points the rest of the set, as the Warriors won 25-15.
Sophomore
Connor Haeuser (West Bend, Wis.) led WLC with a match-high seven kills. Wempner, Mann, and freshman
Josh Ward (Mukwonago, Wis.) tallied six kills each as Wisconsin Lutheran hit .195 with 33 kills, 17 errors, and 82 total attempts. Senior
Isaac Stellick (Rising City, Neb.) had a match-high 21 assists. Mann and Wempner both had four aces and sophomore
Trevor Salutric (Lockport, Ill.) recorded six digs.
Titus Huston had four kills for Maranatha Baptist, which hit -.051 with 13 kills, 16 attack errors, on 59 total attacks.
