JACKSON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Third-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College defeated sixth-seeded Lakeland 5-0 on Monday in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament First Round matchup at Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club.
The Warriors (9-8), who won a NACC Tournament First Round match for the fourth straight season, eliminated the Muskies (7-6)Â from postseason play for the second consecutive season.
WLC jumped out to a 3-0 lead over LU after doubles play in the first-to-five tournament format. Senior
Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) and junior
Ali Schmidt (Germantown, Wis.) teamed up to quickly take care of Olivia Heling and Kassidee Webb 8-1 at No. 1. Seniors
Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and
Sky Pope (Macon, Ga.) doubled up Mary Blossom and Baylee Babcock 8-4 at No. 2. Junior
Haley Olson (Appleton, Wis.) and freshman
Maddy Olson (Onalaska, Wis.) held off Sadie Conway and Sydnee Conway 8-7 (8-1) at No. 3.Â
Wisconsin Lutheran needed just two wins in singles competition to clinch the match. Haskell helped the cause with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Heling at No. 1, and
Haley Olson clinched the victory with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Sadie Conway at No. 5. The remaining four singles contests went unfinished.
The Warriors travel to Madison on Thursday for a NACC Tournament Semifinal matchup against second-seeded Edgewood (14-6). First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Quann Park.
