MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College collected its first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season on Saturday, sweeping Alverno 7-0 at McKinley Park Tennis Courts.
The Warriors (2-3, 1-3 NACC) claimed the doubles point by winning all three matches over the Inferno (0-2, 0-2 NACC). Senior
Ali Schmidt (Germantown, Wis.) and freshman
Tai Mitchell (Elm Grove, Wis.) won 6-2 at No. 1, freshmen
Joelle Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Amelia Kelley (Appleton, Wis.) remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-0 win at No. 2, and the No. 3 team of juniors
Desirae Pugh (Ixonia, Wis.) and
Lucia Gallardo Martos (Torrejon De Ardoz, Spain) won by default.
WLC swept through singles play with ease, losing just eight games total. Schmidt won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1, Smith was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 2, while Kelley, Mitchell, and Pugh each secured 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 3 through No. 5. Gallardo Martos won by default at No. 6.Â
Wisconsin Lutheran begins a three-match homestand on Wednesday when its hosts Lakeland (0-4, 0-3 NACC) at 6:30 p.m. at Hart Park in Wauwatosa.
