Women's Soccer Scores Stalemate Against Marian

WLC earns point in Fondy for first time since 2004

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College came away with a 1-1 draw in its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener against Marian on Wednesday at Smith Field.

The Warriors (3-1-1, 0-0-1 NACC), who picked up a point in Fond du Lac for the first time since 2004, extended their unbeaten streak to four games with their first tie of the season.

The Sabres struck first in the 13th minute when Jacqueline Campos successfully converted a penalty kick. WLC answered with the equalizer  in the 25th minute when junior Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) netted her second goal of the year with the assist credited to freshman Ava Zarling (Jackson, Wis.). The score remained deadlocked through halftime, despite Wisconsin Lutheran being out-shot 15-7 in the first half.

Senior Ella Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied both of the Warriors' shots on frame in the second half, but MU goalkeeper Chelsea King made saves on both chances. Freshman Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.) recorded eight second-half saves to preserve the conference-opening tie.

WLC was out-shot by Marian 28-12, including 16-7 in shots on goal. All five corner kicks in the match went to the Sabres. MIller led Wisconsin Lutheran with three shots. Schoeder and sophomore Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.) combined for 15 saves.

Emily Gordillo recorded a match-high eight shots for MU (3-4-1, 0-0-1 NACC), while King collected six saves.

The Warriors return home to begin a brief two-game homestand on Saturday when they host Rockford (3-3-1, 0-1-0 NACC) at 3:30 p.m. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
