Director Of Athletics Skip Noon Announces Retirement

Served WLC for 33 years as administrator and coach

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – After serving Wisconsin Lutheran College Athletics for over three decades, including 27 years as Director of Athletics, Skip Noon has announced plans to retire effective June 30, 2025. He departs as the longest-tenured Director of Athletics among colleges and universities in the state of Wisconsin.

"Skip's significant contributions to Warriors Athletics over the past 30-plus years cannot be overstated," said Dr. Daniel W. Johnson, Wisconsin Lutheran College President. "We are grateful for his exceptional Christian servant leadership, accomplishments as an administrator and coach, and positive impact on WLC student-athletes, coaches, and staff past and present."

Under Noon's leadership, WLC Athletics has undergone significant facility upgrades. These improvements included the development of the Krauss-Miller-Lutz Outdoor Athletic Complex, featuring Raabe Stadium, Neumann Family Baseball and Softball Fields, Warriors Soccer Field, and the Outdoor Athletic Center. In addition, three major renovations to the on-campus Recreation Complex led to the creation of the Sports Performance Center, Mortell Family Golf Center, updated fitness center, and new bleachers and flooring in the Time of Grace Center.

Beyond the facilities, Wisconsin Lutheran's sport offerings expanded from 14 to 20 throughout Noon's tenure. He oversaw the addition of Football, Women's Golf, Men's Tennis, Men's Volleyball, and Esports. Since taking the reins as Director of Athletics, the Warriors have won 36 conference championships and advanced to the NCAA postseason 30 times.

Ahead of the 2006-2007 academic year, Noon spearheaded WLC's move out of the Lake Michigan Conference into the newly formed 14-member Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). In 2008, he was named Athletic Director of the Year by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.

"Skip has dedicated his career to helping young people succeed," expressed Jeff Ligney, NACC Commissioner. "He has served the WLC community and the NACC as a coach, administrator, mentor, and friend. Skip's impact on me and the countless others he has encountered during his career will be felt long after he has retired."

In his 25 seasons (1992-2017) as head men's basketball coach, Noon collected 318 victories and led Wisconsin Lutheran to a 206-176 record in conference games. The second-longest tenured coach in the state of Wisconsin at the time he left the bench, Noon won more games than any coach in Warriors men's basketball history.

A five-time conference coach of the year, Noon led his teams to six conference championships, two NAIA Tournament appearances (1996, 1997), and the program's first NCAA Tournament berth (2006). Fourteen of WLC's 25 1,000-point scorers played under Noon. He mentored two All-Americans, seven conference players of the year, and 71 all-league performers. All told, seven of his former players, along with the 1995-1996 men's basketball team, are enshrined in WLC's Athletics Hall of Fame.

Noon came to Wisconsin Lutheran in the fall of 1992 as men's basketball coach and associate athletic director before being named director of athletics in 1998.

"It has been a joy and dream to participate in the leadership of WLC Athletics for the past 33 years," reflected Noon. "I am overwhelmed by how God has given me the opportunity to serve Him, His people, and the College through the vehicle of athletics. Being the Director of Athletics at WLC has been an all-encompassing, all-consuming way of life. It is time for me to give back to my family the time and attention they deserve."
