Women’s Volleyball Unable To Slow Down League-Leading Spartans

Warriors next host Concordia Chicago on Saturday

AURORA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College was unable to slow down Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference leader Aurora on Thursday, falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-15) at Thornton Gymnasium.

The Warriors (8-12, 4-2 NACC) hung close in the opening set before the Spartans (15-6, 6-0 NACC) used a late 6-2 run to pull away for a 25-20 win. AU controlled much of the second set behind an early 10-2 spurt, and after WLC cut the deficit to five at 23-18, Aurora closed it out 25-19. The Spartans trailed just once briefly in the third set, building an early cushion and sealing the sweep 25-15.

Wisconsin Lutheran hit .036 for the match compared to the Spartans' .167. Senior Lydia Biggin (Burlington, Wis.) led the Warriors with a team-high nine kills, while senior Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) added six. Freshman Lauren Charbonneau (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) handed out a match-high 22 assists. Freshman Brooke Bartelt (West Bend, Wis.) contributed a match-high 14 digs, while Wigley finished with 10.

AU was led by Izabella Kowalczyk, who posted a match-best 10 kills. Katelyn Ruse added eight kills, while setter Trinity Nelson totaled 21 assists and 10 digs. Katie Brisk anchored the defense with 11 digs.

WLC returns home to Time of Grace Center on Saturday at 12 p.m. to host Concordia Chicago (5-14, 1-5 NACC) in NACC play. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
