AURORA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College was unable to slow down Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference leader Aurora on Thursday, falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-15) at Thornton Gymnasium.
The Warriors (8-12, 4-2 NACC) hung close in the opening set before the Spartans (15-6, 6-0 NACC) used a late 6-2 run to pull away for a 25-20 win. AU controlled much of the second set behind an early 10-2 spurt, and after WLC cut the deficit to five at 23-18, Aurora closed it out 25-19. The Spartans trailed just once briefly in the third set, building an early cushion and sealing the sweep 25-15.
Wisconsin Lutheran hit .036 for the match compared to the Spartans' .167. Senior
Lydia Biggin (Burlington, Wis.) led the Warriors with a team-high nine kills, while senior
Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) added six. Freshman
Lauren Charbonneau (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) handed out a match-high 22 assists. Freshman
Brooke Bartelt (West Bend, Wis.) contributed a match-high 14 digs, while Wigley finished with 10.
AU was led by Izabella Kowalczyk, who posted a match-best 10 kills. Katelyn Ruse added eight kills, while setter Trinity Nelson totaled 21 assists and 10 digs. Katie Brisk anchored the defense with 11 digs.
