RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College earned a 3-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory over Dominican on Saturday at Igini Sports Forum, winning by scores of 26-28, 25-15, 25-22, and 25-13.
The Warriors (11-12, 7-2 NACC) hit .203 as a team compared to the Stars' .026 while totaling 47 kills to DU's 27.
After narrowly dropping the opening set 28-26 despite 13 team kills and a .273 hitting percentage, WLC rebounded emphatically with a 25-15 win in the second frame. Wisconsin Lutheran opened the set on an 8-0 run behind the serving of freshman
Lauren Charbonneau (Menomonee Falls, Wis.), who tallied two aces during the stretch.
The Warriors edged Dominican 25-22 in a tightly contested third set, using a pair of kills from seniors
Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Lydia Biggin (Burlington, Wis.) and a late service ace from sophomore
Willa Hollander (St. Louis, Mo.) to close it out. WLC then dominated the fourth set 25-13, racing out to an early 9-2 lead and never looking back. Charbonneau served three more aces in the frame as the Warriors hit .292 to seal the win.
Biggin led all players with a career-high 21 kills and a .405 hitting percentage, while Wigley added 14 kills and hit .440 with a match-high 14 digs for a double-double. Charbonneau distributed a match-high 37 assists and added nine service aces, the second-most in a match in program history. Freshman
Brooke Bartelt (West Bend, Wis.) collected 10 digs, while sophomore
Elexa Varden (Dixon, Ill.) chipped in with four block assists.
For DU (2-17, 1-8 NACC), Ellery Shea tallied a team-high 11 kills, Karolina Stonkus posted 19 assists, and Fabiana Pizzo collected 12 digs.
