RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College secured its ninth consecutive Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament berth with a 5-2 victory over Concordia Chicago on Wednesday at CUC Courts.
The Warriors (3-5, 3-5 NACC) earned five of six singles wins after dropping the opening doubles point to clinch the team victory over the Cougars (0-13, 0-7 NACC).
In doubles play, WLC's No. 2 team of freshman
Sophia Schroeder (Tampa, Fla.) and sophomore
Amelia Kelley (Appleton, Wis.) cruised to a 6-0 win, while CUC claimed victories at No. 1 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Wisconsin Lutheran stormed back in singles action, winning at the No. 2 through No. 6 positions. Sophomore
Joelle Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) (No. 2) won 6-3, 6-0; Kelley (No. 3) won 6-0, 6-1; freshman
Addie Prochazka (Sussex, Wis.) (No. 4) posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory; Schroeder (No. 5) earned a 6-2, 6-3 win; and senior
Lucia Gallardo Martos (Torrejon De Ardoz, Spain) (No. 6) battled to a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 triumph to close out the match.
The Warriors resume competition in the spring, which includes the NACC Tournament.
