JACKSON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped a 6-1 non-conference decision to North Park on Friday at Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club in its opening match of the spring season.
The Vikings (5-8) took control early by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the opening point. At No. 1 doubles, Alexandra Pugachova and Thea Gifvars defeated junior
Maddy Olson (Onalaska, Wis.) and sophomore
Joelle Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.), 6-2. NPU followed with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles from Emilia Sand and Jessica Dudas over freshmen
Sophia Schroeder (Tampa, Fla.) and
Addie Prochazka (Sussex, Wis.), and secured the sweep at No. 3 doubles as Holly Chleboun and Nicasia Murphy topped freshman
Lexi Yerges (Beaver Dam, Wis.) and senior
Lucia Gallardo Martos (Torrejon De Ardoz, Spain), 6-2.
In singles play, North Park won five of the six matches to seal the dual. Pugachova posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Olson at No. 1, while Sand defeated Smith 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. Gifvars earned a 6-2, 6-0 win against Schroeder at No. 3, and Dudas followed with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Prochazka at No. 4. Chleboun completed the Vikings' singles wins with a 6-1, 6-1 result against Gallardo Martos at No. 5.
The Warriors' lone point came at No. 6 singles, where freshman
Annaliese Bruns (Onalaska, Wis.) defeated Murphy 6-4, 6-2.
WLC (3-6) returns to the court on Friday, March 28, hosting Ripon (8-14) at 1:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club in Jackson.
