ELMHURST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College was unable to overcome a a cold-shooting first half and paint-scoring disadvantage in a 75–50 non-conference loss to Elmhurst on Saturday at R.A. Faganel Hall.
The Bluejays built their advantage steadily throughout the first half, using a pair of runs to seize control. After the Warriors tied the contest at 11-11 following a three-pointer from senior
Ja'Quell Chisom (Milwaukee, Wis.) at the 12:26 mark, EU responded with a 13–2 run that ended with 6:31 left in the first half. Elmhurst surged again with a 10-1 run to extend its lead to 39–17 at halftime behind a 54.8 percent shooting performance.
WLC scored the first five points of the second half, but the Bluejays held at least a 20-point advantage from the 17:29 mark to the 5:40 mark, including a game-high 26-point lead with 10:48 remaining. Wisconsin Lutheran, which was able to bring its deficit down to 18 points twice, held a narrow edge in second half shooting percentage, 41.4 percent to 41.2 percent.
The Warriors (0-3) shot 35.8 percent (19-for-53) from the field and were led by senior
Austin Wagner (Jackson, Wis.) and junior
Trey Luehring (Cedarburg, Wis.) with 11 points each. Chisom grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
EU (2-0) finished the game shooting 47.7 percent (31-for-65) and placed four players in double figures. Dominic Trelenberg paced all players with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Elmhurst held the advantage in points off turnovers (21-6), points in the paint (44-26), and bench points (21-11).
