Warriors Fall To Top-Seeded Illinois Tech In NACC Quarterfinal

WLC becomes just fourth team to score on IIT this season

CHICAGO, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Eighth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College closed out its 2025 season with a 5-1 loss to top-seeded Illinois Tech in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament Quarterfinal on Sunday at Stuart Field.

The Scarlet Hawks (17-1-1) struck early with two goals in the opening two minutes. Hannah Ramos scored just 1:22 into the match off an assist from Kelly Hitchcock, and Kayla Smith added another just 36 seconds later, again assisted by Hitchcock. Hitchcock made it 3-0 in the fifth minute off a feed from Tvesa Vathulya, and then netted her second of the day in the 25th minute from Leyna Yonehara to push the lead to 4-0 at halftime.

IIT tacked on a fifth goal in the 79th minute when Avery Sealey converted a pass from Taylor Hernandez. The Warriors broke through in the final seconds as sophomore Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.) found the back of the net in the 90th minute for her seventh goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Payton Schiebel (St. Charles, Minn.). WLC became just the fourth team this season to score against Illinois Tech.

The Scarlet Hawks outshot Wisconsin Lutheran 32-2, including 19-1 in shots on goal, and held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Shade and sophomore Ava Zarling (Jackson, Wis.) each recorded one shot for the Warriors, while Vathulya led IIT with six shots.

WLC sophomore goalkeeper Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.) tallied 10 saves in 68 minutes of action, while junior Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.) stopped four shots in relief. Illinois Tech's Kayla Hampton earned the win without facing a shot in the opening 45 minutes.

Wisconsin Lutheran concludes its 2025 campaign 7-7-3 overall and 4-5-3 in the NACC, matching its highest conference winning percentage since 2012. The Scarlet Hawks advance to host fourth-seeded Dominican on Wednesday in a NACC Tournament Semifinal.
