Men’s Basketball Earns First Win Of Season In 69-67 Thriller At Albion

Chisom scores career-high 20 points for Warriors

ALBION, Mich. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College picked up its first win of the 2025-2026 season on Saturday, edging Albion 69-67 in a back-and-forth non-conference battle at Kresge Gymnasium as part of the Mike Turner College Classic. The Warriors overcame a 13-point first-half deficit and were led by senior Ja'Quell Chisom's (Milwaukee, Wis.) career-high 20 points.

The Britons (4-2) opened the game with a strong offensive stretch, using a 10-0 run early in the first half to build their largest lead of 13 points with 7:19 remaining. The Warriors (1-4) countered with a 9-0 burst of their own behind back-to-back three pointers from sophomore Dom Hill (Waukesha, Wis.) and junior Trey Luehring (Cedarburg, Wis.), eventually pulling within 34-31 by halftime thanks to seven made threes and an 11-2 advantage in bench scoring.

WLC carried that momentum into the second half, taking its first lead since 6-5 after a jumper from Hill. Albion answered with a 10-2 scoring run to jump back in front by seven, and grew its lead to eight points at 57-49 with 7:42 remaining. A 7-0 Wisconsin Lutheran run beginning with 5:44 remaining flipped a 59-54 deficit into a 61-59 lead. The Britons tied the game three more times, but were never able to regain the lead again. A layup from Hill gave the Warriors their biggest lead of the game at 69-65 with just 0:36 seconds left. Following a layup and turnover, Albion's game-winning three-point attempt circled around the rim and out as time expired.

Chisom powered WLC with a career-high 20-point performance on 8-for-14 shooting, also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Hill added 13 points, while Luehring and sophomore Sam Hans (Hartland, Wis.) each contributed nine. Wisconsin Lutheran finished the afternoon shooting 44.6 percent (25-for-56) from the field, including 43.5 percent (10-for-23) from three-point range. The Warriors held a 16-10 edge in second-chance points and a 19-6 margin in bench scoring.

The Britons were led by Michael Umeh, who posted 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Malachi Hooser added 16 points, and Turman King finished with 12. Albion shot 41.3 percent (26-for-63) overall.

WLC returns home on Tuesday to host UW-Superior (0-4) at 6 p.m. at Time of Grace Center. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
