Warriors Sweep Sabercats Behind Record Hitting Performance

Kane leads WLC in kills, aces, and digs

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College hit a program-record .383 on its way to a quick 3-0 non-conference sweep over Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday at Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (3-5), who secured their first sweep of the season, defeated the Sabercats by scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-20. WLC hit a program-record .383 with 35 kills, 12 errors, and 60 attempts.

Wisconsin Lutheran erased an early 4-2 deficit in the first set with a kill and four straight service aces from sophomore Sean Kane (Tinley Park, Ill.). The Warriors, who led 14-10 before a 9-2 scoring run gave them their first double-digit advantage of the set, won the opening set 25-14.

WLC never trailed in the second set, jumping out to a 9-5 advantage. Leading 15-10, Wisconsin Lutheran scored the next five points to double its lead at 20-10. MBU would get no closer than nine points as the Warriors went ahead 2-0 with a 25-13 victory.

WLC broke away from a 12-12 tie in the third set with a five-point scoring run. Maranatha Baptist came back with four points of its own before Wisconsin Lutheran responded with four of the next five for a 21-17 lead. The Sabercats came as close as three before junior Connor Haeuser (West Bend, Wis.) closed out the match for the Warriors with a pair of kills and a 25-20 win.

Kane led WLC with nine kills, seven digs, and five service aces. Haeuser added eight kills and freshman Jacob Geboy (West Allis, Wis.) hit .667 with six kills, four digs, and three service aces. Senior Jay Thammavongsa (Franklin, Wis.) distributed 30 assists. Wisconsin Lutheran finished with a season-high 13 service aces.

Isaiah Johnson had seven kills and three digs for MBU (0-8), which hit .058 with 17 kills, 14 errors, and 52 attempts.
