FORT MYERS, Fla. (WLCSports.com) - Haverford scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to hand Wisconsin Lutheran College a heartbreaking 10-9 loss on Monday at Terry Park.
The Warriors jumped out in front early with three runs in the top of the first. Sophomore
Aiden Montgomery (St. Louis, Mo.) scored on a RBI single from senior
Noah Zaccanti (Geneva, Ill.). A single from sophomore
Ian Rintelman (Muskego, Wis.) scored sophomore
Colt Ratliff (Oxford, Ga.), and senior
Nolan Hodgins (Caledonia, Wis.) came around on a RBI single from junior
Oliver Lopeztello (Chicago, Ill.).
The Fords quickly tied it up with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second. The score stayed knotted at 3-3 until the top of the sixth, when Zaccanti scored on another RBI single from Lopeztello. HC scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth, before WLC regained the lead in the top of the ninth. Zaccanti drew a bases-loaded walk that scored freshman
Ryan Pierquet (Chilton, Wis.) and Rintelman cleared the bases with a double, plating Zaccanti, Hodgins, and junior
Eli Michaelis (Wauwatosa, Wis.). Haverford tied the game again with a sac fly in the ninth to force extra innings.
Lopeztello led off the top of the 10th with a double, and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Michaelis. But it wasn't enough, as the Fords walked it off with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the frame to claim a 10-9 victory.Â
Lopeztello had four hits for Wisconsin Lutheran, while Zaccanti and Rintelman each added two. Rintelman also tallied four RBI, while Zaccanti and Lopeztello drove in two runs each.
Matt Dahl finished with a pair of hits while driving in three runs for HC (4-2). Drew Doyle recorded the win while throwing 1.1 innings of relief.Â
