Baseball Wraps Up Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic With Setback To Otterbein

Warriors return to Wisconsin on Tuesday to play UW-Platteville

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College concluded its spring break trip at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with an 11-4 non-conference loss to Otterbein on Friday at Terry Park.

The Warriors loaded the bases in the opening frame after singles from freshman Ryan Pierquet (Chilton, Wis.), sophomore Aiden Montgomery (St Louis, Mo.), and a hit by pitch. Sophomore Ian Rintelman (Muskego, Wis.) got WLC on the board with a two-run single. Wisconsin Lutheran added two more runs on a Cardinals error to lead 4-0 in the first. OU chipped away with single tallies in its first three innings before taking the lead, 5-4, in the fourth. Otterbein capitalized on a pair of errors to break the game open 9-4 in the fifth. The Cardinals added a pair in the sixth to push their advantage to 11-4.

Wisconsin Lutheran threatened in its half of the seventh after singles from senior Nolan Hodgins (Caledonia, Wis.), senior Noah Zaccanti (Geneva, Ill.), and freshman Colin Nigl (Neenah, Wis.), OU escaped the jam without allowing a run. The Warriors got a pair of runners on base in the final frame but were unable to cross the plate to close out the game, 11-4.

Rintelman went 2-for-4 at the dish with two RBI, while Pierquet, and senior Elijah Shevey (Muskego, Wis.) each added two hits. WLC totaled 11 hits in the matchup but stranded 12 runners on base.

Logan Ullom and Stevie Monok led Otterbein (6-6) with three hits apiece. The Cardinals recorded 15 hits and had five players with multi-hit performances. Austin Payne earned the win after 5.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The Warriors (3-7) return to non-conference action on Tuesday with a matchup against UW-Platteville (4-2). First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at MSOE Raiders Stadium. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
