Softball Suffers NACC Road Sweep At Aurora

Anhalt leads Warriors with four hits

MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped both ends of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader to Aurora on Saturday at Bedrosian Stadium. The Spartans defeated the Warriors by scores of 10-2 in six innings and 9-5.

GAME 1
The Warriors jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first. Sophomore Madison Heller (South Milwaukee, Wis.) led off with a single, stole second, and later scored on a RBI triple from sophomore Alea Anhalt (Fond du Lac, Wis.). Sophomore Sommer Krull (New London, Wis.) followed with a RBI single to give WLC a 2-0 advantage.

The Spartans responded with five runs on six hits in the bottom of the second with a RBI triple, a bases-clearing three-run double, and a RBI single to put them ahead 5-2. AU tacked on three more runs in the third with a pair of RBI singles, and a sacrifice fly to extend its lead to 8-2. Aurora added late-inning RBIs to push the final margin to 10-2.

Wisconsin Lutheran was limited to five hits, with Anhalt and Krull driving in the team's runs. Senior Melissa Tonn (West Allis, Wis.) took the loss after surrendering five runs in 1.2 innings.

Nina Richards was one of the Spartans' leaders at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Mia Rivera collected four hits in five at-bats. Katelyn Serafin allowed five hits and struckout six across 6.0 innings in the circle.

GAME 2
AU wasted little time getting on the board with a two-run double, followed by a two-run homerun to make it 4-0 after one inning. Gaston scored the Warriors' first run of the game in the second when she came home on a fielder's choice from freshman Natalie Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio). After Aurora added two runs in the second, WLC cut the deficit to 6-3 in the third when Gaston's two-run single brought in Anhalt and sophomore Abby Hahm (Hilton, N.Y.).

However, the Spartans extended their lead in the fourth with a RBI triple that brough home two more runs, and a fifth-inning RBI double made it 9-3. Wisconsin Lutheran pushed late with a seventh-inning rally, scoring two runs on a RBI groundout by Krull and a run-scoring single from Gaston.

The Warriors' offense was paced by Gaston, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Anhalt added three hits, while Heller, senior Gwen Malecke (Gilberts, Ill.), and freshman Maritza Martinez (Kenosha, Wis.) had two hits each. Freshman Kieghtan Rank (Madison, Wis.) allowed eight runs (six earned) across 4.0 innings in the circle.

Angie Delgado led Aurora (12-6, 2-0 NACC), going 2-for-4 with four RBI, while Rivera (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) and Aubrey Ortiz (3-for-4, 3 R) also contributed at the plate. Madelyn Buske pitched a complete game, scattering 13 hits while allowing five runs, walking just one without a strikeout.

WLC travels to De Pere on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. NACC doubleheader against St. Norbert (2-12, 1-1 NACC). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
