RIPON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College held a 4-2 lead over Ripon midway through, but ultimately fell 14-4 in seven innings in a non-conference game on Monday at Francis Field.
Trailing early after the Red Hawks plated runs in each of the first two innings, the Warriors came to life in the top of the fourth. A pair of walks from sophomore
Ian Rintelman (Muskego, Wis.) and junior
Lucas Oswald (Muskego, Wis.) sandwiched in between a single from senior
Nolan Hodgins (Caledonia, Wis.) loaded the bases with nobody out. Freshmen
Colin Nigl (Neenah, Wis.) and
Jacob Lorbecki (Richfield, Wis.) came through with RBI singles. Sophomore
Aiden Montgomery (St. Louis, Mo.) added a sacrifice fly, and freshman
Elijah Knutson (Blanchardville, Wis.) reached on a fielder's choice that drove in another run, giving WLC a brief 4–2 lead.
However, RC quickly responded in the bottom of the frame with a seven-run outburst, capitalizing on a pair of defensive miscues. Ripon added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings, capped by a two-RBI single to close the door.
Lorbecki finished 2-for-3 with a RBI for Wisconsin Lutheran, while six other players posted one hit each. Montgomery, Nigl, and Knutson also drove in a run.
Jack Anderson was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI for the Red Hawks (12-17). Kyler Hickman drove in four runs and had two hits. Matt Miller pitched 4.0 innings to pick up the win.
The Warriors (13-17, 8-8 NACC) return to Neumann Family Baseball Field on Wednesday for a 12 p.m. NACC doubleheader against St. Norbert (11-19, 5-11 NACC). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
