WLC Falls To CUC In Senior Day Doubleheader

Eight seniors honored during pregame ceremony

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Senior Day doubleheader to Concordia Chicago on Saturday at Neumann Family Baseball Field. The Warriors fell to the Cougars by scores of 5-2 and 9-0.

GAME 1
CUC struck early, plating two runs in the first inning behind a pair of RBI singles. Concordia Chicago added another run in the third on a run-scoring single, but WLC responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning. Three straight singles to start the frame, including a RBI single from sophomore Aiden Montgomery (St. Louis, Mo.) that plated senior Elijah Shevey (Muskego, Wis.), put Wisconsin Lutheran on the board. Sophomore Ian Rintelman's (Muskego, Wis.) sacrifice fly scored freshman Ryan Pierquet (Chilton, Wis.) to bring the Warriors within a run.

Despite the early rally, the Warriors' offense was stifled the rest of the way, as they stranded nine runners on base. The Cougars tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings to pull away late.

Pierquet and Shevey led WLC at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort and one run scored. Senior Tyler Danko (Milwaukee, Wis.) allowed three earned runs over 7.0 innings of his start on the mound.

Jake Mahler went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored for CUC. Dylan Scott won for the fifth time this season with his 6.0-inning, two-earned run performance and four strikeouts. Eliot Higgins picked up his third save, striking out two in the ninth to close out the win.

GAME 2
Concordia Chicago broke through with its first of four unearned runs of the game in the third inning and added on, scoring in four different frames. Despite some late base runners in the eighth and ninth innings, Wisconsin Lutheran couldn't push across a run, leaving nine runners on base in the loss.

The Warriors were held scoreless despite collecting six hits in the contest. Pierquet led WLC at the plate with a pair of hits, while seniors Noah Zaccanti (Geneva, Ill.) and Nolan Hodgins (Caldonia, Wis.), and juniors Lucas Oswald (Muskego, Wis.), and Oliver Lopeztello (Chicago, Ill.) each chipped in with one hit apiece.

Senior starter Matt Brissette (Mukwonago, Wis.) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits while striking out two. Senior relievers Will Tucholski (Geneva, Ill.), Jaime Miner (Erie, Ill.), and Leo Paea (Milwaukee, Wis.) combined to close out the final 2.0 inning without allowing a hit or a run.

The Cougars (24-13, 15-7 NACC) were paced by Tyler Dorsch, who finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs, and Cam Buckley, who collected three hits, two runs, and a RBI. Michael Southard earned the win, tossing 6.0 shutout innings and striking out seven without issuing a walk.

Wisconsin Lutheran (13-21, 8-12 NACC) plays its final four NACC regular season games on the road, starting Tuesday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at MSOE (21-14, 15-5 NACC). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
