Raiders Pull Away From Warriors In Second Half Wednesday

Appel leads three in double figures with 19 points

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College was unable to keep pace with a hot-shooting MSOE squad in the second half, falling 95-70 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action on Wednesday at Kern Center.

The Warriors (4-14, 2-9 NACC) fell behind 15-3 nearly seven minutes into the game, but managed to hang around for much of the first half. Three free throws from sophomore Lucas Anamndu (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) had WLC within just two points at 27-25 with 5:18 left in the first half. Wisconsin Lutheran still maintained a two-point deficit with three-and-a-half minutes to play, but the Raiders closed out the opening half on a 10-2 run to take a 42-32 halftime lead. The Warriors outshot MSOE 44.0 percent to 41.7 percent, but it was the Raiders' seven three-pointers that made the difference.

WLC trailed by eight points just over a minute into the second half after a jumper from freshman Bryce Appel (Edgerton, Wis.), but the Raiders doubled their lead nearly seven minutes later to 16 points. MSOE pushed its lead to 20 points for the first time with under nine minutes to play, and later used a 10-0 run to extend the margin to a game-high 30 points with five minutes remaining. The Raiders shot 57.6 percent from the field in the second half, including 61.1 percent from 3-point range.

Wisconsin Lutheran finished the game shooting 42.9 percent (24-for-56) from the floor. Appel led the Warriors with 19 points, while senior Ja'Quell Chisom (Milwaukee, Wis.) and freshman Isaiah Mellock (Greendale, Wis.) each added 13. Appel and Mellock also pulled down a team-high five rebounds.

MSOE (12-7, 10-2 NACC) placed five players in double figures, led by Mason Dopirak's game-high 28 points. Jonathan Burroughs scored 17, Carson Cordelli added 14, Chase Cummings chipped in 11, and Matus Dopirak scored eight points. Burroughs grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. The Raiders finished the night at 49.3 percent (34-for-69) overall, including a blistering 56.3 percent (18-for-32) from 3-point range.
