Schmidt’s Second-Half Strike Sends Women’s Soccer To First-Ever Road Win Over Aurora

Warriors reach 10 wins for first time since 2001

MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College made program history on Wednesday, earning its first-ever road victory over Aurora with a 1-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference triumph at Spartan Athletic Park.

Entering the match winless in 12 previous trips to Aurora, the Warriors (10-3-0, 5-3-0 NACC) broke through in their 13th try behind a second-half strike from freshman Gracie Schmidt (Cedar Grove, Wis.) and a clean sheet from junior goalkeeper Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.).

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, WLC found the decisive breakthrough at the 69:59 mark. Junior Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.) delivered a pass to Schmidt, who netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season to put Wisconsin Lutheran ahead 1-0.

The Warriors controlled the tempo throughout the contest, outshooting the Spartans 14-10 overall and holding an 8-4 advantage in shots on target. WLC also generated more set-piece opportunities, finishing with an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

Schmidt paced Wisconsin Lutheran's attack with a match-high five shots, putting three on frame, while Shade added three shots on goal. Schroeder went the full 90 minutes between the posts, stopping all four shots she faced to secure her eighth win and third shutout of the season.

Chelsey Johnson led AU (1-12-0, 0-9-0 NACC) with four shots, while Frida Nava placed two shots on target. Aurora goalkeeper Leila Connor tallied seven saves in the losing effort.

The Warriors return home to Warriors Soccer Field on Saturday to host Concordia Chicago (5-8-1, 4-3-1 NACC) at 3:30 p.m. in their annual Go Pink Game.
