Women’s Soccer Sets Single-Season Wins Record With 3-0 Shutout Over Edgewood

Bluhm, Shade, and Ash all score for the Warriors

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College made history on Wednesday, setting a school record for single-season victories and matching its most conference wins in 25 years with a 3-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference shutout of Edgewood at Warriors Soccer Field.

With the victory, WLC (13-4-0, 8-4-0 NACC) notched its 13th win of the fall to establish a new program record. Wisconsin Lutheran also secured its eighth conference win of the season, equaling its highest NACC/LMC league win total since the 2001 campaign.

Following a tightly contested first half, the Warriors broke through right before the intermission. In the 45th minute, senior Morgan Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at 44:09—her eighth goal of the season—to send WLC into the break with a 1-0 advantage.

Wisconsin Lutheran carried the momentum into the second half and doubled its lead in the 57th minute when junior Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.) converted a penalty kick at 56:09 for her eighth goal of the year. The Warriors put the match out of reach just six minutes later, as junior Julia Ash (San Diego, Calif.) found the back of the net at 62:04 off an assist from junior Ava Collyard (Richfield, Wis.) for her first goal of the season.

WLC controlled the run of play, outshooting the Eagles (8-8-2, 7-3-1 NACC) 10-5 overall and holding a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal. Wisconsin Lutheran also generated more opportunities from set pieces, earning five corner kicks compared to three for EU.

Bluhm and Shade led the Warriors' attack with three shots apiece, combining for six of WLC's 10 total attempts. In goal, junior Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.) went the full 90 minutes to earn the clean sheet, stopping the lone shot on target she faced.

Megan Hines paced Edgewood's offense with a team-high two shots, while Ellah Ketelsen registered the Eagles' only shot on goal. Goalkeeper Madeline Brown played all 90 minutes, recording four saves in the defeat.

Wisconsin Lutheran, the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NACC Tournament, will face fourth-seeded Edgewood in a quick rematch on Saturday in Verona. Kickoff for the NACC Tournament Quarterfinal contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
