Football Lights Up Scoreboard, Enjoys Historic Night At Raabe Stadium

Warriors rack up program-record 70 points, pitch first shutout since 2012

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College delivered a historic, record-setting performance on Saturday, scoring touchdowns on each of its first six possessions en route to a 70-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory over Eureka at Raabe Stadium on Heroes Night.

The 70 points scored established a new single-game school scoring record for the Warriors (3-2, 1-2 NACC), while the dominant defensive effort secured the program's first shutout since 2012.

Sophomore quarterback Roman Morales (Fort Worth, Texas) paced the aerial attack, completing 14 of 19 passes for 226 yards and five touchdowns, tying the single-game school record for touchdown passes.

WLC wasted no time asserting control. On the game's opening drive, junior Carson Koehler (Saginaw, Mich.) ripped off a 48-yard sprint on the first play from scrimmage and capped a three-play, 63-yard drive with a 6-yard touchdown run just 1:06 into the contest.

Following a Red Devils punt, Wisconsin Lutheran needed only four plays to strike again as Morales connected with sophomore Colton McGee (Grenada Hills, Calif.) for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 10:00 remaining in the opening period. After another EC three-and-out, Morales found senior Keith Johnson (Amarillo, Texas) on a 9-yard scoring strike at the 6:49 mark to push the lead to 21-0.

The Warriors stretched the margin to 28-0 early in the second quarter when Morales found Johnson again for a 16-yard touchdown on fourth-and-2, concluding a 10-play, 60-yard march. On the next WLC possession, Morales hit senior Benett Reader (Appleton, Wis.) in stride for a 38-yard touchdown pass with 10:22 left before halftime. Morales delivered his record-tying fifth touchdown toss with 5:33 remaining in the second quarter, finding Johnson for a 26-yard score on fourth-and-14 to cap an eight-play, 57-yard drive and send Wisconsin Lutheran into halftime with a 42-0 cushion.

The Warriors resumed their offensive onslaught in the third quarter when Koehler broke loose for a 39-yard touchdown scamper to finish a three-play, 53-yard drive at the 10:13 mark.

Eureka put together its deepest scoring threat midway through the third quarter, driving 45 yards down to WLC's 10-yard line. However, junior Jalen Perera (Milwaukee, Wis.) halted the 14-play march by stepping in front of an Ethan Velazquez pass and returning the interception 65 yards for a touchdown with 3:43 left in the quarter.

Wisconsin Lutheran added two fourth-quarter rushing scores to reach the 70-point threshold. Freshman Jalen Robinson (Grand Prairie, Texas) broke free for a 44-yard touchdown run with 12:01 remaining to conclude a two-play drive, and freshman Omarion Watkins (Las Vegas, Nev.) sealed the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run with 1:50 left to cap a four-play, 34-yard series.

For the game, the Warriors piled up 523 yards of total offense (274 rushing, 249 passing) on 60 plays. Koehler led the ground game with 158 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Johnson led all receivers with five receptions for career highs of 98 yards and three touchdowns, while Reader added two catches for 52 yards and a score.

Defensively, Perera led WLC with eight total tackles (five solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, and the 65-yard pick-six. Sophomore Anthony Hill Jr. (Dacula, Ga.) added seven tackles, including 3.0 tackles for loss and two sacks. Junior Noah Ross (Woodbury, Minn.) also tallied seven stops.

The Red Devils (0-5, 0-3 NACC) were limited to 202 yards of total offense (63 rushing, 139 passing) across 72 plays. Velazquez went 12-of-22 for 81 yards, while Bernard MaCaster III threw for 58 yards on 3-of-6 passing. Dalarian Rose led EC on the ground with 24 rushing yards on 15 carries. Kaden Philips hauled in six receptions for a team-high 60 yards, and Micah Gilcrest and Ja'Tyler Lundy led Eureka defensively with five tackles apiece.

Wisconsin Lutheran will look to build on the momentum next weekend when it hosts Benedictine (4-0, 2-0 NACC) for Homecoming on Saturday, October 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Raabe Stadium.
