FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College built an early lead and never looked back, rolling to a 74-37 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory over Marian on Wednesday at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Warriors (17-5, 14-1 NACC) jumped out in front from the opening tip, holding the Sabres to just three points in the first six minutes while using an 11-1 run midway through the first quarter to take control. WLC led 19-6 after one, limiting MU to just 16.7 percent shooting in the opening frame.
Wisconsin Lutheran widened the gap in the second quarter with its most decisive stretch of the night. The Warriors capped a 14-0 run by scoring the first eight points of the second quarter over a three-minute span, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from junior
Margie Stevens (Oneida, Wis.), to push the lead past 20. WLC shot 57.9 percent from the field in the quarter and carried a commanding 44-15 advantage into halftime.
Wisconsin Lutheran opened the second half on an 11-2 run to open up a 38-point lead at the 6:39 mark of the third quarter. The Warriors outscored Marian 16-13 in the period to take a 60-28 lead into the fourth.
WLC used a 12-2 run midway through the fourth quarter to build a game-high 40-point advantage with just two minutes to play, before cruising to its eighth straight win via a 74-37 final.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 45.7 percent (32-of-70) from the field for the game while holding the Sabres to just 21.8 percent (12-of-55).
Stevens led the Warriors with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting, while freshmen
Kenly Frey (Brookfield, Wis.) and
Maddie Ratzow (Oconomowoc, Wis.) added eight points each. Senior
Jayden Hill (Kenosha, Wis.) paced WLC on the glass with a game-high nine rebounds. Stevens dished out six assists and led the team with three steals.
For MU (2-20, 2-13 NACC), Cassandra Arndt scored a team-high nine points. Brianna Guelig led Marian with seven rebounds.
