JACKSON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College was swept in doubles play and couldn't recover in singles as it fell 7-0 to Ripon in a non-conference match on Friday at Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club.
The Red Hawks (9-14) took early control by claiming all three doubles flights. At No. 1, Josie Rondestvedt and Jessi Griepentrog defeated junior
Maddy Olson (Onalaska, Wis.) and sophomore
Joelle Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) 6-4. RC extended the lead at No. 2, where Catherine Skoglund and Allison Pavlovec posted a 6-2 win over freshmen
Addie Prochazka (Sussex, Wis.) and
Sophia Schroeder (Tampa, Fla.). Ripon completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 from Allison Larson and Isabella Engstrom against freshmen
Lexi Yerges (Beaver Dam, Wis.) and
Annaliese Bruns (Onalaska, Wis.).
In singles, the Red Hawks carried their momentum through the lineup, winning all six matches in straight sets. Rondestvedt secured a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Olson at No. 1, while Larson followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Smith at No. 2. Griepentrog and Skoglund added victories at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, each by 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0 scores. Pavlovec and Isabella Demeuse closed out the match with straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 over senior
Lucia Gallardo Martos (Torrejon De Ardoz, Spain) and Bruns.
The Warriors (3-7) will turn their attention to postseason play. Sixth-seeded WLC will make its ninth consecutive NACC Tournament appearance on Monday, April 27, when it faces third-seeded Edgewood (14-8) in a first-round match.
