VERONA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College registered its second straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference road split on Sunday, defeating Edgewood 11-9 in game one before falling 10-1 in five innings in game two at Ceniti Park.
Game 1: Wisconsin Lutheran 11, Edgewood 9
The Warriors (8-10, 2-2 NACC) took a 5-0 lead in the second inning, highlighted by four hits and RBI plays from freshman
Rebecca Reddeman (Canton, Mich.), sophomore
Daylanna Morgese (Milwaukee, Wis.), and sophomore
Maritza Martinez (Kenosha, Wis.). The Eagles answered with six runs on the seven hits in the bottom half to take a 6-5 lead.
WLC responded in the third, tying the game on a hit-by-pitch before junior
Sommer Krull's (New London, Wis.) three-RBI hit made it 9-6. Wisconsin Lutheran added two unearned runs in the fourth inning for an 11-6 lead. EU scored three runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to two, but went scoreless the rest of the way after being held to two hits over the final three frames.
Krull drove in three runs to lead the Warriors' eight-hit effort. Martinez had two hits and two RBIs, while freshman
Peyton Crutcher (Ashwaubenon, Wis.) and Morgese added a hit and an RBI. Sophomore
Teagan Piven (Plainfield, Ill.) earned the win, allowing three hits over 4 2/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and no walks.
Edgewood finished with 13 hits. Lily Mabs went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Abilina Dubree and Allie Draper each had two hits and two RBIs.
Game 2: Edgewood 10, Wisconsin Lutheran 1 (5 Inn.)
After two scoreless frames, the Eagles (10-9, 3-1 NACC) broke through in the third with four runs on seven hits. EU extended its lead to 6-1 in the fourth before sealing the game with four runs in the fifth, capped by game-ending two-run homer to secure the run-rule victory.
WLC was held to six hits but got a highlight in the fourth inning when sophomore
Kylie Gaston (Albertville, Minn.) launched a solo homerun to right field to put Wisconsin Lutheran on the board. Gaston finished 2-for-2 with the team's lone RBI. Krull also paced the offense with a 2-for-3 effort, while junior
Julianna Alloy (Harrison Township, Mich.) and freshman
Katelyn Ruth (Canton, Mich.) each added a hit.
Edgewood's offense was led by Savannah Radtke, who went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Hailie Boardman added a 2-for-2 day with two RBIs and three runs scored, while Lily Mabs and Grace Dooley each collected two hits and drove in a run. In the circle, Lauren Prigge earned the win, tossing a complete-game five-inning effort. She allowed one run on six hits, struck out one, and walked two.
