Warriors Drop Non-Conference Finale To Pioneers

Team returns to NACC play Saturday at Dominican

WAUKESHA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College fell to Carroll 15-3 in non-conference baseball action on Thursday at Frame Park.

The Warriors (8-22) struck first in the top of the opening inning. After junior Ian Rintelman (Muskego, Wis.) drew a walk, sophomore Jacob Lorbecki (Richfield, Wis.) drove him home with an RBI triple to give WLC a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers (18-14) answered in the bottom half and then took control with a five-run third inning. After loading the bases with two outs, CU drew an RBI walk before delivering the decisive blow with a grand slam to push Carroll in front 6-1.

The Pioneers continued to add on with two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth, and three in the sixth to secure the 15-3 victory.

Wisconsin Lutheran put together its best offensive inning in the sixth. Sophomore Ryan Pierquet (Chilton, Wis.) singled to open the frame and later scored on Rintelman's RBI groundout. Junior Aiden Montgomery (St. Louis, Mo.) followed with a double before Lorbecki singled him home to account for the Warriors' final run total.

Lorbecki led WLC offensively, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Pierquet and  Montgomery each added a hit and scored a run, while Rintelman drove in a run and crossed the plate once.

CU was paced by Leo Matuga, who finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Evan Becker drove in four runs on his third-inning grand slam, while Joey Appino scored twice and added an RBI. Owen Ripley earned the win, allowing one run on one hit over five innings. He struck out four and walked five.
