Back-To-Back Walk Offs Aid WLC To Sweep Over MSOE

Stellmacher and Ruth provide game-winning hits in extra innings

WAUKESHA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College walked-off with 1-0 and 3-2 victories over MSOE in nine innings on Sunday in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action at Catholic Memorial's Sullivan Campus. It was the Warriors' first doubleheader sweep over the Raiders since 2013.

Game 1: Wisconsin Lutheran 1, MSOE 0 (9 Inn.)
Locked in a scoreless pitchers' duel through eight innings, the Warriors (15-15, 7-7 NACC) finally broke through in the bottom of the ninth. Freshman Anna Bracke (Brookfield, Wis.) opened the frame with a single up the middle and moved to second on freshman Rebecca Reddeman's (Canton, Mich.) sacrifice bunt. After a strikeout, freshman Hannah Stellmacher (Fairwater, Wis.) delivered the game-winning hit, singling to center field to score Bracke and give WLC the walk-off win.

Sophomore Teagan Piven (Plainfield, Ill.) was dominant in the circle for Wisconsin Lutheran, tossing a complete-game shutout to improve to 5-5 on the season. The right-hander allowed seven hits over 9.0 innings, walked one, and struck out one while facing 34 batters.

Bracke led the offense by going 2-for-4 with the winning run scored, while sophomore Maritza Martinez (Kenosha, Wis.) also had a pair of hits, finishing 2-for-4. Six other players added a hit each for the Warriors, who finished with 10 for the game.

The Raiders (5-23, 2-12 NACC) were paced offensively by Rikka Ludvigson, who went 3-for-4. Katie Pollock took the hard-luck loss after allowing one run on 10 hits over 8.2 innings with three strikeouts.

Game 2: Wisconsin Lutheran 3, MSOE 2 (9 Inn.)
After surrendering a two-run lead in the seventh, WLC answered in the bottom of the ninth when freshman Katelyn Ruth (Canton, Mich.) delivered a game-winning RBI single to right-center, scoring Martinez from second.

Wisconsin Lutheran struck first in the third inning as Ruth tripled to right-center to plate Martinez for a 1-0 lead. It added another run in the fourth when sophomore Kylie Gaston (Albertville, Minn.) singled home freshman Addyson Wheeler (Freeport, Ill.) to make it 2-0.

MSOE rallied in the seventh inning. RBI groundouts and a bunt single tied the game at 2-2.

The Warriors finished with 10 hits, led by Martinez, who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Ruth paced the offense with a 2-for-4 day, driving in two runs, including the walk-off. Junior Sommer Krull (New London, Wis.) also added two hits, while Wheeler contributed a hit and scored a run. In the circle, sophomore Alyssa Dinnauer (Dousman, Wis.) earned the win after tossing 8.0 innings of shutout ball, allowing seven hits while striking out six and walking one.

The Raiders also recorded 10 hits, with Caroline Fouras and Ludvigson each collecting two hits and an RBI. Lylah DeArmond added two hits, while Emma Smith scored a run and finished with a hit and a walk.
