BELOIT, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Junior
Alaena Zastrow (De Pere, Wis.) scored in the 72nd minute and Wisconsin Lutheran College posted its fourth straight shutout to open the season, as the Warriors defeated Beloit 1-0 in a non-conference match on Sunday at Strong Soccer Field.
The win marked the first 4-0-0 start to a season in program history for WLC, while the Buccaneers fell to 1-4-0.
Wisconsin Lutheran controlled the match throughout, outshooting BC 13-2 in the opening half and forcing Beloit goalkeeper Mikayla Campbell to make six saves before halftime. Despite the pressure, the teams went into the break scoreless.
The Warriors finally broke through at the 71:19 mark when Zastrow scored her first goal of the season unassisted to give WLC a 1-0 lead.
Wisconsin Lutheran's defense made the goal stand, limiting the Buccaneers to just three total shots and none on goal. Junior
Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.) earned the win in net for the Warriors, improving to 4-0-0 on the season.
WLC finished with advantages in shots, 22-3, shots on goal, 9-0, and corner kicks, 8-2. Zastrow and junior
Morgan Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) led the way with five shots each. Campbell made eight saves for BC.
Wisconsin Lutheran opens Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Saturday against Concordia Wisconsin (1-3-0) at 3:30 p.m. at Warriors Soccer Field.
