WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped a tightly contested 1-0 non-conference match to UW-River Falls on Monday at Warriors Soccer Field.

The visiting Falcons (3-2-1) capitalized early, scoring the match's lone goal in the ninth minute. Gabriel Abad Lobo found the back of the net at the 8:13 mark off an assist from Mauricio Cuevas to give UWRF the 1-0 advantage.

The Warriors (1-4-0) generated offensive pressure in the second half, registering eight of their 10 total shots in the final 45 minutes. WLC's best scoring opportunities came during an early second-half sequence when shots by sophomore George O'Connor (Chesterton, Ind.) and senior Andrew King (East Moline, Ill.) tested the River Falls' defense. Wisconsin Lutheran continued pushing late, earning a corner kick and recording three shot attempts in the final five minutes, but was unable to find the equalizer.

O'Connor, junior Rolando Colin (Waukegan, Ill.), and sophomore Edgar Gomez (Racine, Wis.) paced the Warriors with two shots each. Sorel Richardson led the Falcons with five total shots, placing four on target.

WLC freshman goalkeeper Morgan Determan (Racine, Wis.) turned in a strong 90-minute performance between the posts, stopping eight of the nine shots he faced—including turning aside a 59th-minute penalty kick by Richardson. UWRF goalkeeper Jaime Mata recorded two saves to earn the complete-game shutout victory.

River Falls held a 17-10 advantage in total shots (9-2 on goal) and earned 11 corner kicks to Wisconsin Lutheran's two.

The Warriors will look to bounce back when they open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Saturday, hosting rival Concordia Wisconsin (1-2-1) at Warriors Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., with the match also serving as Alumni Day.
