Layson Handwork is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Wisconsin Lutheran College football team, serving as the Warriors’ inside linebackers coach.

Handwork returns to WLC after a standout four-year playing career for the Warriors from 2022-2025. A linebacker under head coach Eric Treske, Handwork appeared in 40 career games and totaled 287 tackles, 43.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Handwork was named a team captain in 2025 and earned First Team All-NACC honors that season after receiving Second Team All-NACC recognition in 2024 and Honorable Mention accolades in 2023. He was also selected as NACC Student-Athlete of the Week twice during his career and was named a NACC Scholar-Athlete for the 2025-2026 academic year.

A native of Merritt Island, Florida, Handwork graduated from Merritt Island Christian in 2022 before continuing his education at Wisconsin Lutheran. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management in 2026 and is pursuing a master’s degree in Sport and Recreation Management from WLC.
