MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Recently completing his third season as Warriors' head women's soccer coach, Matt Eisold starred for WLC's men's program from 2006 to 2009 and was inducted into the Paul F. Knueppel WLC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023. The sport of soccer has had a major impact on his life, but it took a while for that to happen. In this edition of "Warriors 1-on-1", Eisold sits down withÂ
Scott Warras to reveal the moments of his upbringing that shaped him into the person he is today, how soccer first entered his life and set him off on an incredible journey, and the advice he would share with his own children should they seek to compete in athletics just as he did.
Beginning with a story of adoption from his birthplace in South Korea, Eisold shares how the Lord's hand worked to ensure that he and his twin sister would find a loving home in Burlington, Wisconsin, and how that experience continues to impact him to this day. He explains how his foray into soccer came later than most and yet still put him in position for a hall of fame collegiate career. The work ethic and drive that fueled him at WLC extended well beyond his time in college, though, as Eisold describes the experience of signing a professional contract and eventually being part of a world championship with the Milwaukee Wave. But being a coach presents an entirely different set of challenges, and it was something he was open to doing in his post-playing career. So, the third-year head coach details the life lessons, taught to him on and off the soccer field, that he now offers his own players at Wisconsin Lutheran. Then to cap it off, Eisold talks about his being a husband and father and how everything he has experienced in life sets him up for this much more important role.
