RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College softball team took both games of a doubleheader from the
Concordia Chicago Cougars on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors
started the day strong taking the first game 8-4 and winning again
in the second game 11-5.
A dominating 12-strikeout start and two runs batted in by senior
pitcher Michelle Shambeau (Two Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) led
the Warriors to their first victory of the day.
Wisconsin Lutheran posted eight hits and an impressive six-run
sixth inning to seal the win. Freshman Emily Foster (Brookfield,
Wis./East) went 1-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs.
In the second game of the day, the Warriors rallied in five
different innings to post 11 runs. Rachel Doege (Menomonee Falls,
Wis./Menomonee Falls), Breanne Duebner (Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran)
and Foster all had multi-hit games. Lisa Cates (Lakeside,
Ariz./Blue Ridge) also had a triple, three RBIs and scored a
run.
Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) recorded her
first win of the season, allowing only one earned run in four
innings of work.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-7, 3-1 NAC) hosts Marian College on
Thursday in its home-opening doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at
Warrior Field.
