MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team extended its winning streak to eight games by
sweeping the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 7-5 and 11-5 on
Monday afternoon at Warrior Field.
Wisconsin Lutheran plated two runs in three different innings as
it never trailed in game one. Laura Konop (Germantown,
Wis./Germantown) led WLC at the plate by going 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Lisa Cates (Lakeside, Ariz./Blue Ridge) and Emily Foster
(Brookfield, Wis./East) each had two hits apiece. Cates also scored
three runs.
Michelle Shambeau (Two Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) earned
the win for the Warriors by pitching a complete game. She struck
out seven and walked two.
Concordia Wisconsin scored four runs in the bottom of the second
inning to grab a 4-0 lead in game two. Trailing 4-1 entering the
top of the fifth inning, Wisconsin Lutheran rallied for eight runs
to put the game out of the reach of the Falcons. WLC added two
insurance runs in the top of the sixth to seal the deal.
Breanne Duebner (Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) went 4-for-5 to lead
WLC offensively. She drove in three runs and scored two. Cates,
Ashley McNair (St. Joseph, Mich./Lakeshore) and Jamie Matz
(Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) each had three hits for the
Warriors, who tallied 20 hits in the game.
Shambeau picked up the win in relief by pitching six innings,
giving up only one run and striking out five.
Wisconsin Lutheran (13-9, 11-3 NAC) hosts Edgewood College on
Tuesday in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. at Warrior Field.
