MILWAUKEE - Michelle Shambeau (Two Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) recorded her 600th career strikeout as the Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team split a home doubleheader with the Edgewood College Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at Warrior Field.

Shambeau's milestone strikeout came in the top of the fifth inning of the first game when she fanned Charli Metcalf to leadoff the inning.

Edgewood took an early lead by scoring a run in the top of the first inning. The Eagles, who were held to only four hits in the game, added two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth to earn the 4-0 shutout victory.

Emily Foster (Brookfield, Wis./East) went 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors at the plate. Shambeau took the loss, giving up only four hits and four runs (one earned). She struckout 11 and walked one.

Wisconsin Lutheran was able to hold onto a 5-4 win in game two to salvage a split. Megan Hafenstein (Johnson Creek, Wis./Johnson Creek) put the Warriors on the board in the top of the third inning when she led off with a solo home run.

Three batters later, Lisa Cates (Lakeside, Ariz./Blue Ridge) singled home Jamie Matz (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and Breanne Duebner (Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles answered right back in the bottom of the third to take the lead by scoring four runs on seven hits. WLC rallied for two runs with two outs in the top of the fourth as Hafenstein recorded an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch on what would eventually prove to be the game-winning run.

After two scoreless innings by each team, Edgewood put its first two batters on base in the bottom of the seventh innings with no outs. Shambeau was able to retire the next two she faced before catching a lineout for the final out of the game, leaving runners stranded at second and third.

Hafenstein went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to pace WLC offensively in the second game. Duebner finished 2-for-4 while Cates added two RBIs.

Shambeau picked up the win by pitching a complete game, allowing four runs (all earned) on 11 hits. She struckout seven and walked none.

Wisconsin Lutheran (14-10, 12-4 NAC) travels to Aurora, Ill., on Wednesday to battle the league preseason-favorite Aurora University Spartans. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
