MILWAUKEE - Freshman Emily Foster (Brookfield,
Wis./East) had two in each game as the Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team (16-12, 14-6 NAC) ended its brief two-game losing
streak with a 2-0, 9-0 sweep of Maranatha Baptist (3-19, 3-13 NAC)
Saturday at Warrior Field.
In game one, Foster's first inning single plated Breanne Duebner
(Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) to give the Warriors all the scoring
they needed. WLC added an insurance run in the fourth as Jenny
Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) led-off with a double
and later scored on a wild pitch.
Michelle Shambeau (Two Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) threw a
complete-game shutout by striking out seven batters and scattering
six hits.
Shambeau then combined with Laura Konop (Germantown,
Wis./Germantown) in game two for a three-hit shutout as the
Warriors' offense took charge with seven stolen bases.
Duebner started the scoring in the first for WLC again. After a
lead-off double, she scored on Lisa Cates' (Lakeside, Ariz./Blue
Ridge) RBI.
In the third inning, the Warriors benefited from passed balls
and wild pitches to scored four runs. Three straight singles by
Cates, Foster and Ashley McNair (St. Joseph, Mich./Lakeshore)
resulted in the first run of the frame. Foster and McNair then
scored on passed balls and freshman Katie Sloan (Omaha,
Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) followed with a base hit and stolen base.
She scored on Boelk's double to wrap up the inning.
Foster added a run in the fourth on an RBI-double that scored
Duebner. Sloan, Shambeau and Boelk finished off the scoring in the
fifth inning.
