MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the North
Park University Vikings on Tuesday afternoon at Warrior Field. WLC
won game one in eight innings, 1-0, before falling in the nightcap,
11-2.
The win in game one tied a school record for wins in a season
and guarantees that the Warriors will finish the regular season
with a least a .500 winning percentage.
Game one featured a classic pitchers' duel as both team failed
to push a single run across the plate for seven innings. Lisa Cates
(Lakeside, Ariz./Blue Ridge) led-off the bottom of eighth with a
double and later scored the winning run when Ashley McNair (St.
Joseph, Mich./Lakeshore) reached base on an error.
Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) led WLC offensively
by going 2-for-4.
Michelle Shambeau (Two Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) pitched
all eight innings to earn the complete-game shutout victory. She
gave up only four hits, one walk and struckout 11.
North Park jumped out on top of Wisconsin Lutheran early in game
two by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Vikings
later scored five runs in the fifth and added four more in the top
of the sixth for an 11-0 lead.
WLC plated its only two runs of the game in the bottom of the
sixth on RBIs by Jamie Matz (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran)
and Sloan.
North Park totaled 13 hits in the game, opposed to only four for
the Warriors.
Wisconsin Lutheran (17-13, 14-6 NAC) hosts the Lakeland College
Muskies on Wednesday in its final home doubleheader of the regular
season. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Warrior Field.
