MILWAUKEE - Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac,
Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) went 4-for-4 and drove in the game-winning
RBI in game two as the Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team
defeated the Lakeland College Muskies 6-5 in the Warriors' home
finale at Warrior Field. Lakeland was victorious in game one,
6-4.
Wisconsin Lutheran grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first
inning in game two when Emily Foster (Brookfield, Wis./East)
doubled in two runs. Lakeland tallied a single run in the bottom of
the first to cut the deficit in half.
Lisa Cates (Lakeside, Ariz./Blue Ridge) added to the lead in the
top of the second when she doubled to score Boelk. WLC extended its
lead to 5-1 in the top of the third when Breanne Duebner
(Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) hit a two-RBI double.
Lakeland came back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth
when it plated four runs, all of which were scored with two outs in
the inning.
After both teams went scoreless in the sixth inning, Jamie Matz
(Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and Lindsey Phillips
(Houston, Minn./Houston) hit back-to-back singles with two outs in
the top of the seventh before Boelk drove in the game-winner.
Michelle Shambeau (Two Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) picked
up the win by pitching all seven innings. She surrendered eight
hits, two walks and struckout five.
In the first game of the day, Lakeland scored twice in the top
of the first to grab an early lead. Duebner crossed the plate in
the bottom of the first off of an error after reaching base on a
single earlier in the inning and WLC trailed 2-1. The Muskies
tallied a run in the top of the third before WLC came back to tie
the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth.
Lakeland countered once again with two more runs in the top of
the fifth and added an insurance run in the top of seventh to seal
the win.
Shambeau was charged with the loss in the game after allowing
six runs (three earned), two walks, while striking out seven.
Wisconsin Lutheran (18-14, 15-7 NAC) travels to Lisle, Ill., on
Saturday for its final two games of the regular season against the
Benedictine University Eagles. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
at the Benedictine/Village of Lisle Sports Complex.
