LISLE, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team capped off its regular season with a doubleheader
split with the Benedictine University Eagles on Saturday at The
Sports Complex. WLC won first game 3-0, before falling in game two
16-7.
Wisconsin Lutheran marched an early run across the plate in the
top of the first inning when Emily Foster (Brookfield, Wis./East)
doubled home Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) for
a 1-0 lead.
The Warriors tallied another run in the top of the fourth on a
Breanne Duebner (Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) RBI single that brought
home Rachel Doege (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls).
In the top of the sixth inning, Duebner hit a sacrifice fly that
scored Doege once again for the 3-0 lead.
Michelle Shambeau (Two Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) pitched
the complete-game shutout, striking out seven and allowing only
four hits. Doege led WLC at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two
runs scored.
Benedictine scored early and often in game two, plating all of
its runs in the first three innings. The Eagles scored four runs
the top of the first, but the Warriors answered with three of their
own in the bottom of the first.
BU combined to score 12 runs over the next two innings, scoring
two in the second and 10 more in the third. The Warriors scored
four more runs in the bottom of third to cut the deficit to 16-7.
The score stood over the next two frames as each team went
scoreless.
Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) and Foster each had
two hits and scored a run to pace the Warrior offensive attack.
Wisconsin Lutheran (19-15, 16-8 NAC) has locked up a spot in the
NAC Tournament which begins on Thursday, May 1. The Warriors will
wait to see who they will face when the pairings will be released
on Sunday evening.
