RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College softball team won its sixth straight game by winning a
doubleheader over the Dominican University Stars on Wednesday
afternoon by scores of 5-0 and 7-1.
Wisconsin Lutheran starting pitcher Michelle Shambeau (Two
Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) was stuck in a pitching duel in
game one until the Warrior offense exploded for five runs in the
sixth inning, highlighted by a two-out, two-run home run by Breanne
Duebner (Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran).
Shambeau threw a complete-game shutout by striking out 11
batters, giving up just four hits and walking none. Ashley McNair
(St. Joseph, Mich./Lakeshore) went 2-for-3 and Laura Konop
(Germantown, Wis./Germantown) went 1-for-2 with an RBI, walk and
run scored.
Wisconsin Lutheran was dominant again in the second game.
Dominican enjoyed a one run lead in the first inning, but the
Warriors offense, just like in the first game, needed just one big
inning to do their damage. In the fourth, they put up six runs en
route to a 7-1 win.
Shambeau hurled yet another complete game, giving up one run on
three hits, striking out eight and walking one. Lisa Cates
(Lakeside, Ariz./Blue Ridge) went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs,
and a run scored. Emily Foster (Brookfield, Wis./East) went 2-for-3
with a double, RBI and run scored.
Wisconsin Lutheran (11-9, 9-3 NAC) hosts Concordia University
Wisconsin on Friday at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader at Warrior
Field.
