MILWAUKEE - Freshman catcher Morgan Dittmar
(Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and
two runs scored to help lead the WLC softball team to a 9-1 victory
over Rockford in five innings on Wednesday in the second game of a
doubleheader at Warrior Field.
Rockford jumped out in front 1-0 in the top of the third inning
on a solo home run by Andrea Hundertmark. It would be the only run
that the Regents would plate the rest of the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran answered with three runs of its own in the
bottom of the third. Sophomore Lindsey Phillips (Houston,
Minn./Houston), who led off the inning with a walk, come across the
plate on an RBI sacrifice off the bat of sophomore Laura Konop
(Germantown, Wis./Germantown). Dittmar followed with a two-run
blast to make the score 3-1 in favor of WLC heading into the
fourth.
After holding the Regents scoreless in the top of the inning,
the Warriors capitalized on three miscues by the visitors to score
six runs in the frame. Dittmar and freshman Maggie Mueller (Mt.
Calvary, Wis./Campbellsport) each hit two-run doubles in the
inning, while Emily Foster (Brookfield, Wis./East) added a
run-scoring single.
WLC, which allowed a pair of Regents to reach base in the top of
the fifth, ended the game by tagging a runner out at the plate who
was trying to score to keep the game from ending via run rule.
Dittmar, Foster and Stephanie Sack (Granger, Ind./Michigan
Lutheran) each tallied two hits for the Warriors. Konop picked up
the win by going five complete innings to improve to 2-3 on the
season.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-7, 1-1 NAC) is scheduled to travel to
Marian University in Fond du Lac on Saturday for a doubleheader
with the Sabres beginning at 12 p.m.
