MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College fell to
the Rockford Regents 10-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Warrior Field
in the first game of a doublheader and the Northern Athletics
Conference opener for both teams.
Wisconsin Lutheran hung tough for the first six innings, but the
bats of Rockford caught fire for six runs in the top of the seventh
inning to all but seal the win.
Facing a 1-0 deficit in the third inning, Lindsey Phillips
(Houston, Minn./Houston) singled and Katie Sloan (Omaha,
Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) doubled to put two runners on base. Laura
Konop (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) followed by driving both
runners home on a single. At the end of three, the Warriors held a
2-1 lead.
The 2-1 lead was the only lead of the game that WLC could enjoy.
Rockford scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-2
advantage. The Warriors could not put together enough offense to
respond, only managing one hit for the remainder of the game.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Regents' offense took off
for six runs on five hits. The eight-run deficit in the bottom of
the final inning of play proved to be too much to overcome for
Wisconsin Lutheran, and the game ended in a 10-2 loss.
Six different players each tallied one hit for WLC in the
contest. Junior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran)
went the distance for the Warriors on the mound, allowing 12 hits
and striking out five.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-7, 0-1 NAC) plays the second game of its
doubleheader with Rockford at Warrior Field beginning at 5 p.m.
