MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team dropped a 4-3 eight-inning decision to the Concordia
University Chicago Cougars on Monday in the first game of a
Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at a cold and windy
Warrior Field.
Wisconsin Lutheran grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of
the third after freshman Stephanie Sack (Granger, Ind./Michigan
Lutheran) reached base on an error that scored Morgan Dittmar
(Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran), who tripled earlier in the
inning.
The Cougars answered with three runs in the top of the fourth on
two hits and a couple of errors by the Warriors. Trailing 3-1
entering the bottom of the sixth, WLC plated a pair of runs on an
Emily Foster (Brookfield, Wis./East) double to tie the game at
3-3.
After a scoreless seventh, CUC loaded the bases with two outs
and singled home the eventual game-winning run. The Warriors had a
runner reach base in the bottom of the eighth, but did not
threaten.
Foster went 2-for-4 at the dish to lead WLC offensively.
Sophomore Laura Konop (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) took the loss
in relief.
Three players recorded two hits each to pace the Cougars (5-15,
3-5 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (7-14, 5-8 NAC) hosts Concordia Chicago in
the second game of its doubleheader on Monday at 2 p.m. at Warrior
Field.
