MILWAUKEE - The Warriors earned a 10-3 victory
over Concordia Chicago on Monday in the second game of a Northern
Athletics Conference softball doubleheader under winter-like
conditions at Warrior Field.
Wisconsin Lutheran jumped on top of the Cougars early by scoring
runs in the first four innings of the game. WLC grabbed a 4-0 lead
in the second with a two-out three-run rally. Concordia Chicago was
plagued by three errors in the inning.
After the Cougars scored a pair of runs in the top of the third,
Wisconsin Lutheran managed to score three more runs in the bottom
of the frame on five walks and no hits. WLC led 7-2 heading into
the fourth.
Wisconsin Lutheran kept the scoring going in the fourth on a
Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) solo home run
and an RBI single by Emily Foster (Brookfield, Wis./East). CUC and
WLC each sent a run across the plate in the sixth before the
Warriors retired the Cougars in order in the seventh to salvage the
doubleheader split.
Junior Ashley Zaunter (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) went
2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored for WLC. Junior Jenny
Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) tossed all seven
innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out seven to pick
up the win on the mound.
Courtney Campbell and Clarissa Geiseke each tallied two hits to
lead the Cougars (5-16, 3-6 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-14, 6-8 NAC) returns to action on Tuesday
when it travels to Verona, Wis., to take on Edgewood in a NAC
doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at Ceniti Park.
