VERONA, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran College was
defeated by Edgewood 5-0 on Tuesday in the first game of a Northern
Athletics Conference softball doubleheader at Ceniti Park.
The Eagles, who held the Warriors to just one hit in the game,
built a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single off
the bat of Colleen Joyce. Edgewood added to its lead in the third
when Jamie Kurt belted grand slam to center field. The Warriors
held the Eagles scoreless for the final three frames, but couldn't
manage the plate a run of their own.
Freshman Emily Helwig's (Westland, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran)
third inning single turned out to be WLC's only hit of the game.
Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) took the loss in
circle for the Warriors despite allowing only four hits in five
innings of work.
Kurt went 1-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored to lead the
Eagles (9-12, 4-5 NAC). Jenna Ryan earned the win by tossing six
innings, giving up just one hit and striking out seven.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-15, 6-9 NAC) squares off against the
Eagles in the second game of its doubleheader on Tuesday at 6
p.m.
