WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
Warriors were able to benefit from a huge offensive surge Saturday
as they crushed the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders 22-1
in five innings in the first game of a Northern Athletics
Conference doubleheader at Riverside Park.
Junior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) had a
great all-round game for WLC. She pitched all five innings of the
contest, giving up only two hits and one run to go along with nine
strikeouts during her dominating performance on the mound. While at
the plate, Boelk went 3-for-5 with six RBIs.
The Warriors started hot right out of the gates. In the top of
the first inning they plated five runs on three hits. Freshman
Stephanie Sack (Granger, Ind./Michigan Lutheran) had a two-RBI
single for WLC in that first frame.
Not to be outdone by their success in the first, the second
inning was the most productive for the Warriors. They were able to
score nine runs on six hits. WLC benefited from five wild pitches,
scoring on two of them. The Warriors were well-balanced on offense
for the entire inning, with Boelk leading the way bringing three
runs across the plate.
Still pitching a shutout, the Warriors were able to put even
more runs on the board in the third inning, plating seven runs on
four hits. Boelk again led the offensive attack for WLC with three
RBIs in the frame. Emily Helwig (Westland, Mich./Huron Valley
Lutheran), Laura Konop (Germantown, Wis./Germantown), Morgan
Dittmar (Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) and Erin Peterson
(Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) each had an RBI for Wisconsin
Lutheran.
With the game well in hand, the Warriors added one more run in
the fourth to go up 22-0. The Crusaders ended Boelk's bid at a
shutout by scoring their first run of the game in the bottom of the
fourth inning. WLC accounted for the only hit the rest of the
way.
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-18, 7-12 NAC) will face off against the
Crusaders in the second game of the doubleheader at 2 p.m. on
Saturday in Watertown.
