PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team battled for seven innings but came up on the short
end of a 3-0 decision to the Lakeland College Muskies on Thursday
in the first game of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader
at the Quit Qui Oc Sports Complex.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which had three runners reach base in the
game, and Lakeland played through four scoreless innings. The
Muskies broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth when
they plated a pair of runs on two hits. Lakeland scored its third
and final run of the contest in the sixth on one of two errors that
the Warriors committed in the game.
Junior Jenny Boelk's (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran)
first-inning single was the only hit that WLC would have in the
game. Despite the loss, Boelk had a solid outing in the circle. She
tossed all six innings and allowed one earned run. She fanned six
and walked three while scattering seven hits.
The Muskies' (22-5, 15-0 NAC) seven hits came off the bat of
seven different players in the contest. Sara Roberts improved her
record in the circle to 15-3 on the season. She pitched all seven
innings, giving up just one hit and striking out seven.
Wisconsin Lutheran (10-19, 8-13 NAC) faces Lakeland in the
second game of the doubleheader on Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Quit
Qui Oc Sports Complex.
