Lakeland uses big fourth inning to defeat WLC

PLYMOUTH, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran College was shutout by the Northern Athletics Conference-leading Lakeland College Muskies 9-0 in five innings on Thursday in the second game of a doubleheader at the Quit Qui Oc Sports Complex.

Lakeland took a 2-0 lead in the first on three hits. The Muskies strung together three consecutive hits with two outs in the inning. After a scoreless second, Lakeland extended its lead to 3-0 in the third off of two hits.

The Muskies, who now have a two-game lead in the NAC standings, put the game out of reach in the fourth when they scored six runs on six hits. The Warriors left two out of their three base runners in scoring position in the contest.

Sophomore Lindsey Phillips (Houston, Minn./Houston) went 2-for-2 to lead WLC at the plate. Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) finished with the third and final hit for the Warriors on the afternoon.

Leah Sheahan went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored to lead Lakeland (23-5, 16-0 NAC). Sara Roberts picked up the win by throwing a five-inning three-hit shutout.

Wisconsin Lutheran (10-20, 8-14 NAC) plays its final two non-conference games of the season on Saturday when it travels down I-94 to Chicago to take on North Park University. First pitch between the Warriors and Vikings is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Holmgren Complex.
