MILWAUKEE - Junior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac,
Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) threw seven scoreless innings and struck
out eight batters to lead the WLC softball team to a 3-0 shutout
victory over Alverno College in the second game of a Northern
Athletics Conference doubleheader on Friday at Warrior Field.
Wisconsin Lutheran got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the
second when freshman Stephanie Sack (Granger, Ind./Michigan
Lutheran) belted an RBI double that plated sophomore Katie Sloan
(Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran). Sack later scored on an RBI
groundout off the bat of junior Ashley Zautner (Sun Prairie,
Wis./Sun Prairie) for the 2-0 advantage.
The Warriors maintained their 2-0 lead until the bottom of the
fifth when Boelk helped her own cause by hammering a lead-off solo
home run for a 3-0 lead. WLC held Alverno scoreless for the final
two frames en route to the sweep.
Boelk and Sack each went 1-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored
to pace the WLC attack.
Andrea Spindler and Jessica Goetz both went 2-for-3 at the plate
to lead Alverno (2-4, 0-2 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-7, 3-1 NAC) travels across town for a noon
NAC doubleheader against the MSOE Raiders on Saturday.
