Sabres' late surge stings Warriors

Box Score Box score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University scored all eight of its runs in the final two innings en route to blanking Wisconsin Lutheran College 8-0 on Tuesday in the first game of a Northern Athletics Conference softball doubleheader at Smith Fields.

Runs seemed tough to come by for the first three innings of the game. Wisconsin Lutheran threatened to plate runs in the first and fourth inning, but left a pair of runners on base in each of the frames.

The Sabres began their scoring surge in the bottom of the fourth inning when they plated five runs on six hits, while leaving two on base. After WLC went scoreless in the sixth, Marian responded by scoring three more runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the game via run rule.

Freshman Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Warriors who finished with five hits in the game. Sophomore Laura Konop (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) pitched 5.1 innings and was handed the loss on the hill for WLC.

Marian (6-11, 2-3 NAC) had four different hitters tally two hits each in the game.

Wisconsin Lutheran (7-8, 5-2 NAC) faces Marian in the second game of its doubleheader on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
